t ten years old, Finn Graham has already achieved one of his goals in life – to go to Queen’s College.

The St Winifred’s School student will be headed there come September after he was announced as the top boy in the Common Entrance Examination on Monday.

He received a score of 246.81, with 99 per cent in Mathematics, 96 per cent in English and an A in Composition.

Speaking to Barbados TODAY moments after receiving the news, the soft-spoken Graham, who wants to be an engineer, outlined that while he took no extra lessons to prepare for the exam, he was fully prepared after doing “lots” of practice papers within the class setting.

The national squash player, who is heading to the British Virgin Islands over the weekend to compete in the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships, thanked his parents and teachers for their assistance throughout the years and advised next year’s examination takers to “try hard, focus and don’t feel pressure”.

Class teacher Natalie Small was all smiles at the news, saying she was “over the moon with his success”.

Excited yet unsurprised by his achievement, the Principal of St Winifred’s Kim Lewis described Graham as an avid student from reception class, with a love of reading and watching documentaries from age six.

Expressing her satisfaction with the school’s performance during the exam, she stressed the need for balance.

“The kids have worked hard and they all have given their best and . . . we did not stop all the other subjects. There was still physical education, drama, music and everything because that is all important too. They need the pressure and then the break,” Lewis said.

She wished Graham success at QC.
