Barbados U17s win again

Barbados U17s look set on retaining the red ball title as they came from behind to defeat Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) by eight wickets in the second series of games in the West Indies Rising Stars Men’s U17 two-day competition at the Inshan Ali Park, Trinidad and Tobago.
Resuming the day on 13/0, Trinidad lost their first five wickets with the addition of only 18 runs. Fast bowler Jakeem Pollard picked up three wickets while Xaundre Baptiste and Damani Roach chipped in with one each during the early period of play. T&T struggled at 31/5 with an overall lead of 56.
A surprising bowling change by captain Joshua Dorne to bring Kevion Newton and himself into the lineup proved wonders for the Bajan lads.
Firstly, Newton picked up two wickets to contain the T&T boys to 53/7.
Number eight and nine batters, AS Basant and Aaidan Racha, were able to build a 48 run partnership before captain Dorne broke through, picking up the next three wickets in his eight balls bowled to dismiss the T&T boys for 106 — Dorne 3/0 in 1.2 overs, Pollard 3/21 in eight overs and Newton 2/12 in four overs.
Requiring 131 to win, opening batter Demarko Wiggins was LBW for zero to the first ball he faced. Fellow opener Zachary Carter and number three batter Dorne, batted brilliantly to put the game out of reach for the T&T team, they had a partnership of 117 runs.
Dorne lost his wicket with the score on 118 as he made a patient 38 from 86 balls. Carter was the aggressor of the innings as he was unbeaten on 86 in 98 balls, which included three fours and nine sixes. Micah Greenidge was the other not out batter as he made nine while Barbados finished the game in 31.5 overs, scoring 134/2.
Barbados will take on Guyana at Gilbert Park on August 21 and 22.
