Fire destroys the Builder’s Value Mart warehouse, Reed Street

ire officers have been battling a blaze at the Builder’s Value Mart warehouse on Reed Street.

No one has been injured, but the fire that started around 9: 28 a.m., has so far extensively damaged the roof and structure. At the scene, loud explosions could be heard inside the building, possibly resulting from flammable items inside the warehouse, officials said.

Speaking to the media, Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard said, “We responded initially with three water tenders…we also augmented that with the CLP, that’s the ladder truck, and a couple of small appliances. The fire is approximately 50 per cent contained. The building [partially] collapsed during the suppression exercise. No one has been injured.”

Business owner Ram Merchandi described the incident as a major setback but assured there would be no job losses. (SB)
