Bishop gets three months in jail for knife

Anthony Julian Bishop.

25-year-old man was sentenced to three months in prison for carrying a knife in public.

The sentence was imposed on Anthony Julian Bishop, of Chapman Village, St Thomas on Monday after he pleaded guilty to having the weapon earlier in the day along Victoria Street, without a reasonable excuse.

Sergeant Kenmore Phillips told the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court that the police were dealing with a matter on High Street when they were informed that a man fitting Bishop’s description was walking around with the weapon. He was seen along High Street and detained.

When questioned about the weapon, Bishop said: “I was carrying that to do something. I have to protect myself.”

The prosecutor also informed Magistrate Alison Burke that Bishop was currently on bail in two jurisdictions.

He also had nine previous convictions.

When asked whether he had anything to say, he replied, “No”.
