ub-Lieutenant Nakeida Gibson will be dismissed from the Barbados Defence Force (BDF).

That was the sentence handed down this afternoon by a six-member tribunal as her court martial ended.

The officer with 15 years of service admitted this week that she breached the BDF’s fraternisation policy by engaging in a personal relationship with a person of a junior rank, and that she mishandled a service weapon. She also pleaded guilty to conduct and neglect prejudicial to good order and military discipline, as well as to wilful misconduct and wilful neglect in public office.

The charges against her stemmed from an incident at her Christ Church home on July 10, involving a subordinate officer with whom she was involved in a relationship, and the man’s girlfriend. Gibson discharged her firearm in the incident.
