Power cuts affect customers in five parishes

ower was fully restored to Barbados Light & Power customers across five parishes that experienced outages earlier in the day.

Customers in Christ Church, St Philip, St George, St Thomas and St John lost electricity supply around 4 p.m. as a result of what the Barbados Light and Power Company explained was a fault on the 24 KV transmission line near St. Barnabas, St Michael.

This also impacted the Central Substation.

Reports from the Pine, St Michael said residents reported hearing a transformer exploding on a pole just outside the Parkinson Memorial School.

The power company said the matter would be fully investigated.

“Light & Power’s protective systems activated promptly to isolate the fault, preventing more customer outages across the island,” it said in an update.

“Restoration efforts began within 30 minutes of the outage and by approximately 7 p.m. power was fully restored to affected customers.” (SD)
