Football Local News Sports BFA hosts anti-doping session Barbados Today10/11/20240605 views he Barbados Football Association (BFA) says the National Tridents and their Management Team participated in a recent an anti-doping presentation and Q&A session at the BFA Technical Centre in Wildey. Facilitated by Jasper Blades, Doping Control Officer at the Caribbean Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (RADO), Dr Adrian Lorde Vice-Chairman of the Caribbean RADO, the National Anti-Doping Commission (NADC), and the BFA, the National Senior Men’s players learnt about the doping control process, in and out of competition testing, banned substances, testing procedures and options, and personal responsibility as it relates to testing availability and fulfilling the spirit of fair play in sport. BFA General Secretary Ashley Scott-Williams emphasised the importance of the session, thanking all who participated and assisted in facilitating the initiative. “Anti-doping is a top priority in sports and the BFA is pleased to be able to provide our players and management with opportunities such as these. Making this type of information available is an important step in our commitment to developing and professionalising football in Barbados,” he said. “We thank Dr Lorde, Mr Blades, the National Anti-Doping Commission, and the Caribbean RADO for their assistance in facilitating the session, and we look forward to further collaborations in the future.” National Tridents Captain Andre Applewhaite echoed these sentiments. “The session was definitely important and beneficial to us as national athletes,” he said. “It gave us more of an insight into what exactly anti-doping is, and the international standards that apply. It was really worthwhile to hear from the experts from the Caribbean RADO on how anti-doping fits into not only football in Barbados, but the bigger picture of worldwide sports.” (PR)
