Manufacturers of registration number plates must register with the Barbados Licensing Authority

ffective Monday December 2, 2024, all manufacturers of registration number plates will be required to register annually with the Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA). This is according to the recent amendment to the Road Traffic Act., CAP 295.
Under the Act, no person shall manufacture registration number plates unless registered. Additionally, no person shall obtain registration number plates from a manufacturer who is not registered under this section.
Also, from this Monday, the BLA will begin accepting applications from existing vehicles registration plate manufacturers, and new businesses interested in becoming certified plate manufacturers.
To apply, persons must provide the Licensing Authority with their name and address, business or company to be registered, and the certificate of registration issued under the Registration of Business Names Act, Cap. 317, or the certificate of incorporation issued under the Companies Act, Cap. 308 in the case of a registered business or a company.
Any other relevant particulars which the BLA may request must also be provided. Application forms can be downloaded under Forms from the Barbados Licensing Authority’s website at bla.gov.bb.
After applying and once approval has been granted by the BLA, the manufacturer of registration number plates will be required to pay the initial fee of $500 to the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).
The license plate manufacturer will then be issued with a certificate of registration that must be displayed in the business. The certificate will be valid for a period of one year from the date of issue.
Only approved businesses will be listed on the Licensing Authority’s website as certified to manufacture and issue vehicle registration plates. (PR/MTW)
