A new general manager has been appointed at the Barbados Co-operative and Credit Union League Limited (BCCULL), the trade body for credit unions in Barbados.

Tracia Pounder succeeds Anthony Pilgrim, who has retired from the BCCULL after serving for almost 30 years as the body’s general manager.

A seasoned executive and avid credit unionist, Pounder brings more than 20 years of experience in the financial services sector and is recognised for her strategic leadership and passion for the credit union movement.

The first Barbadian and fourth Caribbean professional to earn the prestigious Young Credit Union People Award from the World Council of Credit Unions in 2011, Pounder joined a select group of young credit union professionals globally, who are celebrated annually as emerging leaders with the potential to shape the future of the credit union sector.

Throughout her career, Pounder successfully led cross-functional teams, managed multi-million-dollar budgets, and executed transformative projects that aligned vision with impact. Her expertise spans strategic planning, strategic marketing and stakeholder engagement, making her a trusted leader in the cooperative sector.

Commenting on the transition, President of the BCCULL Kemar Cumberbatch expressed “immense gratitude” for the contribution of Pilgrim, while welcoming Pounder whom he said is “bringing a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the role”.

He added: “The leadership transition marks an exciting new chapter for the League, as we continue to build on the shoulders of our predecessors to support and develop credit unions in Barbados.”

The new BCCULL general manager holds a Master of Science in Marketing from Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Business School, a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Management from the University of the West Indies, and a Professional Certificate in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She also achieved the Certified Strategic Marketing Executive (CSME) designation from the Credit Union Executives Society in Madison, Wisconsin, further solidifying her expertise in strategic marketing leadership.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Pounder is passionate about community development and is a Founding Trustee of Legacy Foundation, a registered charity in Barbados focused on learning, wellness, and empowerment.
