1 person dead, another injured following shooting at service station in St Philip

A man has died and another injured following a shooting at the Rubis Service Station at Kirtons, St Philip, on Sunday, police say.

Insp. Rodney Inniss, the police’s Communications and Public Affairs Officer, said police were called to the area around 11:15 a.m.

When officers arrived they located a man in his 40s who had died at the scene. Officers were told that another man, an employee of the service station, was transported to hospital in a private vehicle.

Inniss said it appears the man who died  was shot multiple times.

Police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

“This occurred on a morning where there were several customers in the service centre purchasing breakfast and food and other persons being attended to with petrol in their vehicles,” Inniss told members of the media at the scene.

“It shows you the kind of brazen incidence that we are facing now. We need to solve these matters, we need the public’s help in getting these things solved.”

Junior Leacock, an eyewitness to the shooting, said he narrowly escaped being hit by bullets, adding that there are four bullet holes in his van.

Sunday’s shooting death brings to three the number of homicides in Barbados so far in 2025, Inniss said. (DLB)
