Eastern Orators Toastmasters Club Celebrates 12 Years

The Eastern Toastmasters Club issued the following statement as it marked its 12-year anniversary at the Ruby Church of the Nazarene:

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Eastern Orators Toastmasters Club marked its 12-year anniversary at the Ruby Church of the Nazarene. The gathering featured a speech by club president Shaquan Marshall, who shared the benefits of joining Toastmasters.

Toastmasters International, founded in 1924, now boasts over 16,000 clubs in more than 143 countries. The organization provides a supportive environment for members to develop their public speaking, listening, and leadership skills. According to Marshall, Toastmasters “helps individuals gain the confidence to stand tall, rooted in their ability to express themselves.”

The Eastern Orators Toastmasters Club, a proud part of this global network, holds meetings every second Saturday at Princess Margaret Secondary School and every fourth Saturday online. Reflecting on the club’s 12 years of success, Marshall highlighted its contributions to community development, personal growth, and leadership development.

To celebrate this milestone, the club has planned a series of events. The festivities began with the launch of a Youth Leadership Program at Princess Margaret Secondary School. The launch featured guest speaker Professor Dr. Susan Chuang from the University of Guelph in Canada. The program aims to shape a new generation of leaders by equipping young people with essential communication and leadership skills.

The club’s anniversary celebrations will continue with a competitive speech contest followed by a social evening and an outdoor meeting. As part of the club’s commitment to giving back to the community, two complimentary memberships were offered to members of the Ruby Nazarene. Marshall extended an open invitation to all attendees: “Take the leap and challenge yourself to unlock your potential, expand your horizons, and transform your communication skills this year by joining us.”

He concluded his speech with the inspiring words of Mohammed Qahtani, the 2015 World Champion of Public Speaking: “Words have power. Words are power. Words could be your power. You can change a life, inspire a nation, and make this world a beautiful place.”
