Wins for three in Elite as Wildey moves to top of the table

Wildey, Empire, and Sagicor Windward recorded victories as the second series of the 2025 Barbados Cricket Association Elite Division Three-Day Championship concluded on Sunday.

Wildey jumped to the top of the table on 36 points after they registered a dominating win in two days over IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire by nine wickets after bowling out the home team for 37 runs in their second innings.

After losing the entire first day due to rain, Wildey grabbed first innings points early on Sunday behind a strong batting performance from left-handed Nimar Bolden who scored 84 in 108 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes.

Resuming the day trailing on first innings by 17 runs, Wildey were eventually bowled out for 201, gaining two batting points and a lead of 27 runs. The drama then unfolded as Yorkshire lost their first six wickets for 16 runs. Left-arm spinners Jerome Jones and Deswin Currency sensed an opportunity and attacked with close fielders around the bat, eventually bowling out Yorkshire for a dismal 37.

Jones and Currency each picked up 5 wickets as Wildey knocked of their target of 11 runs in 1.4 overs.

Scores: Wildey beat IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire by nine wickets.

Yorkshire 174 all out (31.5 overs) (Jaden Webster 47; Tariq O’Neale 7-59) and 37 all out (15.4 overs) (Jerome Jones 5-11, Deswin Currency 5-16).

Wildey 201 all out (49.2 overs) (Nimar Bolden 84; Zachary McCaskie 60; Indal Persaud 5-56) and 11-1 (1.4 overs).

Ravendra Persaud is bowled by Jerome Jones as Wildey dismissed Yorkshire for 37 runs.

It took Empire just over an hour on day three to complete their victory by eight wickets over Bayview Hospital YMPC at Bank Hall and move to third place in the standings with 23 points.

Needing only two wickets to bat again, Jomel Warrican cleaned up the tail to bowl out YMPC for 196 and set a target of 77 to win. Warrican then opened the batting with Kevin Stoute as the pair wasted little time in the middle.

Empire would reach 80 for 2 in 9.2 overs with Stoute making 30 in 25 balls and Warrican 28 in 21 balls.

Scores: Empire beat Bayview Hospital YMPC by eight wickets.

YMPC 111 all out (29.4 overs) (Jomel Warrican 4-7) and 196 all out (40 overs) (Zavia Trotman 58; Camarie Boyce 4-34).

Empire 230 all out (56 overs) (Shaquille Cumberbatch 74; Shamar Marshall 5-45) and 80-2 (9.3 overs) (Kevin Stoute 30).

SigniaGlobe Financial BCA Youth put on an impressive batting display against University of West Indies (UWI) at Waterford A to claim three batting points along with first innings points.

Led by a maiden Elite century from Akeem McCollin and 98 from Zachary Carter, the Youth team scored 342 for 8 as they made UWI toil in the sun for 92 overs.

McCollin scored 107 in 188 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes as he reached his century in the first over after the lunch break when UWI took their second new ball. Carter however was unfortunate not to reach triple figures as he also batted for 188 balls and recorded 11 fours and 1 six.

SigniaGlobe Financial BCA Youth 342-8 (92 overs) (Akeem McCollin 107, Zachary Carter 98 – 188 balls, 289 minutes, 11 fours, 1 six).

NB: After 75 overs, BCA Youth were 265-6.
