Barbados third at Paraguay Duals wrestling meet

Barbados placed third at the Paraguay Duals over the weekend, finishing behind Cuba and Panama in a tough seven-team showdown at the Paraguay Olympic Centre.

The national team, backed by the Barbados Olympic Association and PanAm Sports, competed as part of a regional training camp hosted by the Paraguay Olympic Committee in the lead-up to the 2025 Junior Pan American Games.

According to officials, dual meet-style competitions are being used to sharpen athletes across multiple disciplines.

Wrestling in the Greco-Roman division were Adrian Maynard (77kg), Matthew Arindell (97kg), and Ayden Williams (130kg), while Kodi Marshall (86kg) and Jaydon Alleyne (125kg) represented Barbados in freestyle.

Barbados also picked up two Pan Am Games qualification spots at the recent U23 Pan American Championships in Querétaro, Mexico.

Alleyne secured a berth in the 125kg freestyle class, while Williams qualified in the 130kg Greco-Roman division — both earning the right to represent Barbados at the junior games.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Arindell added to his medal collection with a third-place (bronze) finish in the men’s 90+kg category at the Senior Pan American Beach Wrestling Championships.
