Donald Austin appointed chairman of Barbados National Energy Company

Former telecoms executive Donald Austin is the new chairman of the Barbados National Energy Company Limited (BNECL).

 

His appointment by Minister of Energy and Business Lisa Cummins took effect on September 1.

 

In a statement, BNECL highlighted Austin’s extensive leadership experience in both the telecommunications and financial services sectors across the Caribbean.

 

Commenting on his new role, Austin said: “It is a privilege to be offered the opportunity to work with the minister, Board and the teams of the company. I feel energised already having met with the Board and some of the management team. I see a highly efficient, financially viable organisation working for the benefit of all Barbadians and the region where possible. I look forward to the future with a great deal of optimism.”

 

Austin will be supported by Deputy Chairman Dr Asquith Thompson and Board Directors Paul Scott, Peter Thompson, Dr Erwin Edwards, Carlton Cummins, Lachmi Connell, Stephanie Catling-Birmingham and Dawn Williams.

 

Other members of the Board are the General Secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Business, or their nominees.
