Wales hunting second Concacaf Caribbean Cup Win

Weymouth Wales.

Weymouth Wales will be going in search of consecutive wins in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup when they take on Defence Force in an away encounter tonight at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.

It is all-important match, which could potentially determine how far the reigning Barbados Premier League and Knockout champions progress in an already historic campaign where the club became the first team from the island to play in the prestigious tournament.

The Carrington Village based boys are currently third in Group B with three points from two games, just one point behind Jamaica’s Cavalier FC who they will face at home on October 1.

However, both Wales and Defense Force are on the same points with Wales slightly ahead on goal difference.

Speaking during a pre-match interview head coach Asquith Howell said the margin for error is slim as every game will be vital if the team is to advance to the next round of the tournament.

“Both of our games are very important, nevertheless we are going to take this first game as the away team and we will try to come out with nothing less than a point. Ofcourse we want to win the game,” Howell said.

“The good thing for us is that Cibao the leaders of the Group they have to play Defence Force and we have to play Cavalier so the next game is critical. Once we can get the win the next game becomes even bigger,” he added.

Howell also gave credit to his opponents but reiterated that his team has done their research.

“Defense Force is the top team in the T&T premier league. It is a professional team so we know there is a lot of quality in the team but we have done our homework. We looked at some footage of their last game and I think we are ready to go and they believe that they can go out there and compete with this team,” he stated.

Howell is urging the Barbadian fans to continue supporting the squad on their quest for regional glory.

“I want to say thank you to the general public. I want them to continue support Wales and Barbadian football. We are so happy with the support and I know the team only wants to do well for the country. Football is one of the driving force in reference to our youth and once we can continue to push it like what we are seeing in the prime minister’s cup we can get back the other days.”
