Former DLP representative Michael Lashley attends BLP conference

Just after 4 p.m. on Saturday, former Member of Parliament Michael Lashley received thunderous applause and cheers as he entered Queen’s Park on the second day of the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) 86th Annual Conference.

Lashley, who represented the St Philip North constituency for three consecutive terms on a Democratic Labour Party (DLP) ticket, was greeted warmly by attendees. His presence drew immediate attention, coming just months after the DLP confirmed he would not contest the constituency in the next general election.

In April, the opposition party announced during a branch meeting at the Alexandra School in St Peter that attorney-at-law Simon Clarke, a Bayfield native and newcomer to politics, had been selected to represent St Philip North.

While Lashley has not publicly commented on his future political plans, his appearance at the BLP conference has already sparked speculation across political circles. (SZB)
