One dead, another injured after early morning shooting in St James

One man is dead after reportedly being confronted by a licensed firearm holder during an early-morning attack at Weston, St James.

Police say initial investigations have revealed that a group of people were socialising in the vicinity of a business establishment when one of the individuals entered his vehicle to leave at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.

It was there that he was allegedly confronted by three armed, masked assailants who discharged their firearms.

The man drew his licensed firearm and discharged several rounds, injuring two of the assailants.

One of them succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor. The other injured assailant was transported by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist with the investigation to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1800-8477, Police Emergency at 211 or the Holetown Police Station at 419-1700. (PR/BT)
