Health Care Local News National Blood collection centre benefits from Sagicor donation Barbados TodayPublished: 15/11/2025 Updated: 14/11/2025017 views From Left - Sagicor’s Wellness Nurse Jessica Sandiford with Acting Manager of Communications, CSR and Events Thaddeus Harris and Senior Blood Collecting Technician at the National Blood Collection Centre Nurse Wendy Lorde. (GP) The National Blood Collection Centre has received a welcome boost to its operations with the donation of a new multifunctional blood donor electric bed from Sagicor. The addition brings the total number of beds at the centre to eight, enhancing both efficiency and comfort for donors and staff. Senior Blood Collecting Technician, Nurse Wendy Lorde, expressed appreciation for the timely donation, noting its impact on the Centre’s ability to serve the public. “This new bed from Sagicor has made a real difference to our daily operations. We previously had four beds, one of which needed replacing. We later received three from the QEH, and now, with this latest addition, we have eight fully functional units. This means we can accommodate more donors at one time, as one bed allows for at least seven persons to make a donation on a daily basis. This reduces waiting periods and ensures a more comfortable experience for everyone who comes in to give blood.” Nurse Lorde also highlighted the encouraging trend of increased blood donations in recent months, especially from individuals giving on behalf of family and friends, but encouraged more persons to become regular donors. “We are seeing more people giving blood for their loved ones, which is wonderful, but we would love to see more persons making it part of their routine. A consistent supply of blood is critical to saving lives every day.” Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sagicor Life Inc. (Barbados) Paul Inniss said the company wanted to make a donation for some time and is pleased to make a contribution that supports the vital work of the National Blood Collecting Centre. “At Sagicor, we believe in caring for our communities in meaningful ways. The National Blood Collecting Centre plays a crucial role in sustaining the nation’s healthcare system, and we are proud to support their efforts to make the donation process easier and more comfortable for everyone. We hope this donation inspires more Barbadians to roll up their sleeves and give the gift of life.” The blood bed donation forms part of Sagicor’s ongoing commitment to health and wellness initiatives across Barbados and the region.
