Prime Minister Mia Mottley has announced that Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) will provide a US$1.2 million donation to support the completion of the Richard Stoute Amphitheatre in the National Botanical Gardens.

In a statement shared on social media, Mottley said she held a “productive meeting” with senior CIBC officials, including President and CEO Harry Culham, CIBC Caribbean CEO Mark St Hill, and former CIBC President Victor Dodig.

The Prime Minister said CIBC has “firmly established itself as a true example of a private sector partner that understands the importance of working together for national development,” noting the bank’s longstanding involvement in Barbados’ development programmes.

She highlighted CIBC’s role in both of the country’s debt swaps, the debt-for-nature swap and the debt-for-climate swap, which she said will support the upgrading of the South Coast Sewage Treatment Plant into a modern water reclamation facility.

“Today, they reaffirmed their commitment to our national development, with a US$1.2 million donation for the completion of the Richard Stoute Amphitheatre in the National Botanical Gardens,” Mottley stated.

She thanked the bank on behalf of the Government and people of Barbados.

“I sincerely thank them for their donations and continued efforts to support Barbados’ long-term development,” she said.

Mottley added that Government looks forward to “continuing this strong partnership” as Barbados advances plans to build a more resilient and sustainable economy.
