Solar lights to be installed in Holetown and Bridgetown

Two of this island’s major towns will shine even brighter this Christmas, as the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW), in collaboration with its contractor, CMO (Caribbean Technologies Inc.), has begun installing several solar lights throughout historic Holetown, St James, and Bridgetown.

 

 

Installation work started on Monday, December 8, in Holetown, where 41 lights are being placed.  Work also began yesterday evening in Bridgetown, where 27 locations have been identified for the installation of 117 solar lights.

 

 

In Holetown, the lights will extend from Molyneux Road to Folkstone, while in Bridgetown they will be installed from Princess Alice Highway to Roebuck Street.

 

 

The Holetown installation is expected to be completed late next week, and Phase 1 in Bridgetown is now underway. The MTW anticipates that the added illumination will make a major impact on The City’s landscape, as Christmas shoppers move throughout Bridgetown.

 

 

The upgrade of lighting across the island forms part of government’s policy to strengthen Barbados’ climate resilience. Through the MTW’s Climate Resilience Programme, the ministry aims to reduce dependence on electricity by procuring and installing solar lighting along streets and highways.

 

 

This Christmas, as persons shop and participate in the festivities across the island, the MTW encourages everyone to prioritise their safety by making use of well-lit streets and roadways.
