QEH says A&E lockdown lifted, normal access restored

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital has confirmed that the temporary lockdown of its Accident and Emergency Department has been lifted and that normal access has resumed.

In a statement issued on Monday, the hospital said the precautionary measure was implemented in collaboration with the Barbados Police Service following a shooting incident, in keeping with established safety protocols for staff, patients and visitors.

The clarification comes amid reports circulating that the A&E Department remained under lockdown.

QEH thanked patients, visitors and the wider public for their patience and cooperation during the brief disruption and acknowledged the efforts of healthcare workers and law enforcement in maintaining a safe environment while essential services continued.

The hospital said it remains committed to providing timely, safe and compassionate care to all who access its services.
