Religious bodies reminded to submit marriage officer lists by January 15

With the January 15 deadline approaching, religious denominations and registered national religious institutions have been reminded to submit updated lists of their appointed marriage officers to the Registrar of the Supreme Court, in keeping with the Marriage Act.

Under Section 11(2) of the Marriage Act, Cap. 218A, the Registrar is required to publish annually, during the month of January, the official list of persons appointed as marriage officers in Barbados. The Registration Department said the updated submissions are necessary to ensure the accuracy of the national register.

Each submission must include the full name of the marriage officer, clerical title or office, date of appointment, postal address, parish or pastoral charge served, and current status.

Religious bodies were also reminded that the Act places an ongoing obligation on heads, superintendents or supervisors to notify the Registrar of any changes, including appointments, resignations, cessation of duties or changes of address.

All lists must be submitted by January 15, 2026, via email to Angela.King@barbados.gov.bb.
