Kickstart down UWI to go top of the table

Kickstart Rush joined Paradise at the top of the table on ten points, following the conclusion of the fourth round of matches in the Barbados Football Association’s  Premier League at the Wildey Technical Centre last night.

Playing in the evening’s opening game, Kickstart defeated the winless UWI Blackbirds 3-2 to leave the perennial title challengers in the relegation zone and without a point thus far.

It was an action packed first half, with Diquan Adamson putting Kickstart ahead in the 14th minute. A quick throw-in on the left flank was followed by a cross into the box which was met by a thumping header from Adamnson.

The lead was short lived, however, as Kickstart attempted to play the ball out of their defence in the 19th minute. Shaine Hermas pounced on the loose ball after an initial shot from his teammate to score from the right side of the box and make it 1-1

Jayden Goodridge then put Kickstart back ahead in the 24th minute with a simple finish, before his team pulled ahead 3-1 in the 43rd. A classic long ball was played over the left side of the defense and met by Adamson, who finished it beautifully over the head of the keeper, who had no chance.

UWI then slashed the deficit in half in bizarre fashion two minutes later when a long free kick taken behind the half line by Javon Taylor went straight through the outstretched hands of Kickstart’s keeper to leave the score 3-2 at the break.

That proved to be the last goal of the game as both teams tightened up defensively in the second half.

In the nightcap encounter, Brittons Hill United advanced to seven points but missed the opportunity to move up to third in the table, as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Bagatelle.

Goals in the 13th and 22nd minute from T’Shane Lorde saw Brittons Hill cruise into a 2-0 half time lead. Not to be daunted, however, Torian Joseph pulled a goal back for Bagatelle in the 56th minute, before splitting two defenders and securing a late equaliser in the fifth minute of injury time.

Fifth round action kicks off at the BFA Technical Centre on Sunday as Ellerton face Bagatelle, Wotton FC oppose UWI Blackbirds and Weymouth Wales play Brittons Hill.
