(MB) A man was shot and killed near St Mary’s Primary School on Tuesday afternoon, in what police described as a brazen attack in the busy inner-city district. According to the Barbados Police Service, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 1:42 p.m. on Chapman Lane. Police Operations Control Room received a report of the shooting, prompting multiple units to be dispatched to the area, said Public Affairs and Communications Officer, acting Inspector Ryan Brathwaite. “A subsequent call came that a motionless body was seen in the area of 3rd Avenue, Chapman Lane, St Michael,” he said. Initial investigations revealed that the victim had been sitting in an area commonly referred to as “the canal” when he was approached by two individuals. “They flanked him, discharged a number of gunshots, causing him to run away from the area. He subsequently fell in the area of 3rd Avenue where his lifeless body was found,” Insp Brathwaite said. Medical assistance was summoned, but a doctor later visited the scene and pronounced the man dead. Insp Brathwaite appealed to members of the public for assistance in police inquiries. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Barbados at 1-800-8477, Police Emergency at 211, or the Criminal Investigations Department at the Central Police Station at 430-7189 or 430-7190. “All information is appreciated and no information is too small,” Insp Brathwaite added. A female resident told Barbados TODAY she had known the victim for years and, to her knowledge, he was not someone who caused trouble. “I just sorry that it happen, that he gone that way. Any person that dies that way is very bad, especially for the family and friends,” she said, describing the incident as deeply troubling for the community. “I got children and I don’t know… You know how much people cried out here?”
