The seven calypsonians from the Cave Shepherd All Stars calypso tent this afternoon gave patrons a sample of what they will be serving up come next Friday at the Pic-O-De-Crop semi-finals.
For more than an hour Smokey Burke, Chrystal Cummins-Beckles, Adrian Clarke, Troy Special, Colin Spencer, De Announcer and Ian Webster mingled with shoppers in Cave Shepherd, Broad Street. They also performed their songs which got the judges’ nod and booked them a place in the competition.
Some of the artists also distributed samples from sponsors and chatted with the people who passed by them on the ground floor of the City store. Drinks and cake samples were also available.
People were bursting with excitement when the Announcer sang Botsytheology and many of the customers were moving to the†rhythm of Chrystal Cummins Beckles’ Fly On De Wall. The people looked pleased at the performances of all of the semi-finalists and were either singing along or bursting out with laughs of enjoyment.
For the people
For Burke the event was a way to bring the music to the people, some of who did not attend the tent. He said it was “fantastic” and “great PR” for All Stars and he was pleased to have the shoppers singing along with the chorus of his song Dance Alexandra Dance.
Cave Shepherd’s event planner, Kim Tatem, said that the tent has been sponsored for the past 18 years by Cave Shepherd and today’s event was to promote the artists and also bring entertainment to the customers.
She said that every year they showcased the talent of the Cave Shepherd All Stars tent in the store to the customers.
Some of them danced, much to the amusement of the customers, and there was much laughter coming from the tent mates.
Tatem was the MC for the afternoon.
