I refer to the column by Reverend Davidson Bowen in the last issue of Barbados today tiled Myths Vs Facts, which is filled with more myths than facts.
Jesus claims in John 17:17 that God’s word is truth, (17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth), not just a collection of stories of people’s experiences with God. Genesis is therefore truth.
Jesus and the New Testament writers left us in no doubt that Adam and Eve were singular historical persons. The genealogy of Christ found in Luke 3: 23-37 treats Adam as a person as it does Joseph and all the others mentioned.
In Romans 5:12-14, Paul refers to Adam as a man. (12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned — 13 for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come.)
Also, please note that 1 Corinthians 15:45 states that he was the first man. (45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”, the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.) and 1 Timothy 2:13 describes him as the first person created (13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.)
We are even told in scripture how long Adam lived, 930 years, Gen 5:5. I don’t think I need to belabour the point. My question to you is this. From where did you get your weird theological views and will you consider changing them in light of what the Bible is saying?
If you are going to give advice to Sunday school teachers, give them advice which is consistent with scripture, you will please your LORD and saviour Jesus Christ by so doing.
