Brace yourselves, Oscars attendees: this year, you’re in for some serious Hollywood-focused snark.
On Monday, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced that comedian and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will host the Academy Awards, scheduled to take place on February 24, 2013.
Show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron told Reuters in a statement that they chose MacFarlane because “his performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh.”
“My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast,” the actor, writer and director, 38, joked in a separate statement.
Prior to MacFarlane, the Academy called on Oscars pro Billy Crystal to host the 2012 ceremony (his ninth time emceeing the prestigious ceremony over the course of his career), after 2011’s hosts, newcomers Anne Hathaway and James Franco, were panned by viewers. (Us Weekly)
