Another player stroked his way into the century club, while another one fell just eight runs short of the coveted landmark, during the final preliminary round of matches in the Inspire Sports/National Sports Council under-13 cricket competition yesterday.
Ajani Waterman made a superb 102 and Kilano Brathwaite hit an impressive 92, as Fusionz Boutique Passage United piled on the runs against newcomers ICBL Empire juniors at Passage Road.
The home-team amassed 253 for five from 29 overs. Openers Waterman and Brathwaite posted an electrifying partnership of 224 in 25 overs until Waterman got out. Ryshon Williams (24) and Nico Reifer with a patient 14 added 38 for the second-wicket, before left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop bowled Williams and Hayden Hart in consecutive deliveries. Bishop claimed three for 22 from his seven overs.
Edmund switched to the south for a second spell and collected another two wickets to end with the excellent figures of four for 16.The tall and wiry Ondre Callender bowled the old ball with a great turn of speed and swiftly snatched three for seven from 1.4 overs. He definitely looks a very good prospect.
Earlier, Dover Juniors recovered from the peril of 128 for nine to a competitive 168, thanks to a fighting unbeaten innings of 51 at No.7 by Camarie Boyce who got valuable support from last man Dijon Hunte in a stand of 40. Boyce faced 69 balls and counted eight fours.
The remaining three quarter-final spots and the match-ups will be decided next Saturday, after the three rescheduled matches are completed.
