Joseph Steinbok was installed as President of the Rotary Club of Barbados West last Friday, to serve for the period July 2013 to June 2014. The installation ceremony was held at the Yacht Club of the Port St. Charles Resort.
The Rotary Club of Barbados West was established in 1975 and since then has provided assistance to many organisations such as the Thelma Vaughn Home, the Challenor Home and various community sports groups.
This assistance has ranged from financial support to donations of household items and amenities for the underprivileged.
Through the years the reach of the club has expanded substantially to include scholarships for university students, the establishment of a literacy programme, building the Medical Intensive Care Unit, Renal Dialysis Unit and the Pediatric Ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The food hamper programme, which oversees the distribution of hampers twice yearly, is still active as well as the delivery of food for the Red Cross Meals on Wheels programme.
All programmes are financed by various fund-raising activities sponsored by the Club, including the Golf Classic, Polo Classic as well as their Bingo Nights.
Steinbok will be ably assisted by a team of officers and board members while continuing in the club’s tradition and motto “Service above self”. The other members of his team are: Horace Cobham — President elect, Dennis Chandler — Vice President, Ian Hinds — Immediate Past president, Milton Inniss — Secretary, Ezra Prescod — Community Services Director, Hugh Callendar — International Services Director, Morton Holder — Club Services Director, Philip Carter _ Vocational Services Director, Winfield King — New Generations Director, and John Hadchity — Treasurer.
