The pageant was titled “The Tale of a Swan”, and for Miss Intermix Boutique, Regina Ramjit, her tale ended with a beautiful crown adorning her head and the title Miss Barbados World 2013.
Nineteen-year-old Ramjit was one of seven beautiful young women who were vying for the crown last night at the Savannah Hotel. Not only did they gracefully cross the stage in their evening wear, but they also showed off their skills in the talent segment and displayed how fast they could think on their feet during the question-and-answer session.
Two contestants stood out during the talent segment. Miss Colcafe, Ashley Roberts, wowed the audience with a soothing rendition of The Prayer on steel pan. Ramjit performed a touching and emotional piece titled Precious Touch, which is also the name of her Beauty With A Purpose charity.
Through her portrayal of a dying woman with both legs amputated, she urged those in attendance to consider those who are suffering from terminal illnesses and extend a precious touch to them. This performance won her the Best Talent award.
Ramjit’s Beauty With A Purpose endeavour was also named the best project of the seven mounted by contestants. She worked with the Wish Campaign, which grants wishes of children between the ages of two and 16 who are suffering from life threatening illnesses.
Miss TopItUp.tv, Janine Hinkson, and Miss TMAR Business, Khadija Moore’s Beauty With A Purpose projects rounded out the top three.
Hinkson’s strapless, gold, full sequined champagne gown dazzled the judges and she received the Best Gown award. Miss Mini Cooper, Lisa Maynard, also looked divine in an emerald Lucy Lui design that featured a sequined bodice and a risqu√ thigh high split.
Miss Pompasette Magazine, Reah Yearwood, was named Most Photogenic, Moore received the Best Smile prize, Miss Shakad Designs, Shanica Prescod, was voted Miss Congeniality by the other contestants and Ramjit was named People’s Choice.
At the end of the show, the second runner up position went to Prescod, Hinkson the first runner up and Ramjit was crowned Miss Barbados World and will be heading off to Indonesia to represent the island. She tearfully thanked her supporters, sponsors, gown designer Lester Welch, her mother and God.
