A number of awards and prizes were presented to the participants and top performers in the recently held Scotiabank Junior Calypso Monarch competition.
In the 8 to 12 category – Monarch Quinn P was awarded $1,5000 from Scotiabank and an Apple iPod Touch from the iShop, a Staycation from Divi Southwinds and a voucher from Henrietta’s Closet.
Second placed, Jazz-Z won $1,125 from Scotiabank and an HP tablet from Electric Avenue, while third placed, Dynamo $750 and a Titan tablet and fourth placed, the Mighty KT – $600 and Genius speakers, all from Scotiabank and Electric Avenue respectively.
Competitors in positions five and six, won $500 and Genius headset and $500 and a Genius wireless pen mouse, respectively, while seventh and eighth places received $500 and Logitech speakers. Positions five to eight were announced though not in order of placement, but rather in alphabetical order, and they were: DJ, Mighty King, Mighty Makeda and Raanan.
Among the 13 to 18 competitors, Monarch Honesty walked away with $2,250 from Scotiabank and an Apple iPod Touch from the iShop, a Staycation from Divi Southwinds and a voucher from Henrietta’s Closet.
Aziza, who came second, won $1,500 from Scotiabank and an HP tablet from Electric Avenue, and third placed, Sammy G, secured $1,050 and a Titan tablet. Fourth place went to De MC who won $850 and Genius speakers.
Again in that category, fifth to eighth places were announced in alphabetical order, namely: Mandisa, Small One, Sparkle T and Young G. Fifth place was awarded $700 and a Genius headset; sixth place, $700 and a Genius wireless pen mouse; and seventh and eight places, $700 and Logitech speakers.
Additional special awards will be presented in each category for Best Self-Penned Calypso, HIV/AIDS Prize for Best Lyrics and an NCSA Prize for Best Lyrics re Alcohol and Substance Abuse. There will be a prize for Best Rendition among the 13 to 18s as well. (LB)
