National Under-13 cricket players enrolled in the 2013 National Sports Council (NSC) Summer Sports Camp were given the opportunity to interact with elite players compliments of Sagicor Life Inc.
Campers were paid a visit by members of the Sagicor UWI cricket team, Kyle Corbin, Anthony Alleyne and Marques Clarke, at the Blenheim playing ground, which also serves as the headquarters of the NSC. The players took the participants through warm up exercises and worked on bowling and batting techniques with the under 13 squad.
Steven Leslie, Cricket Coordinator at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus explained, “The University of the West Indies is delighted to be a part of any development programme for cricket in Barbados. The participation of the UWI players at this summer camp is just one of the social commitments we have made to our community. We are encouraged by the good work being done by both Sagicor and the National Sports Council and would hope that some of these young men can join the UWI cricket programme in the not too distant future.”
Explaining the genesis for the special visit, Tracey Knight-Lloyd, Assistant Vice President, Marketing remarked, “Over the years we have built a solid relationship with the National Sports Council which goes beyond donating funds. We are committed to the development of the youth as well as the development of the sports camp. We drew on our relationship with the Sagicor UWI team to complement the training which the young cricketers are receiving.”
In 2012 the Sagicor UWI team won the Sagicor Super Cup, the Sagicor General Twenty20 Championship and the BCA LIME Elite Division Championship.
