The Theatre Arts Room at The St. Michael School is being given a make-over.
Thanks to the Barbados Chapter of the UWI Alumni Association and the Office of Student, Corporate and Alumni Relations which is undertaking the project as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus.
“As UWI alumni, we felt it was important to give back to our community and this is why we chose this project,” explained Coordinator of the project and member of the UWIAA Executive Committee Lisa Yarde, .
She said that The St. Michael School housed the first Administrative Office of the Cave Hill Campus in the its early years and this is why the school was chosen.
“Harris Paints has partnered in this venture and we are eternally grateful to them.”
The initiative is one of two community service projects being undertaken during the 50th anniversary year. The second is to assist in fulfilling the wish list of the Ellerslie Secondary School’s Library. That School has refurbished its library and is in need of assistance in filling the shelves.
“During our Reunion Week later this year, October 10th will be celebrated as UWI Alumni Service Day. We will officially hand over the Theatre Arts Room to the Administration at The St. Michael School and the books to the Ellerslie library,” Yarde said.
The Alumni Association will also be hosting a networking social on Saturday, August 24 at 5 p.m. in the Staff Lounge of the Cave Hill Campus which is a part of the rallying campaign to encourage UWI alumni to join the Association and participate in Reunion Week from October 6 – 12.
