A free and unique gospel music event, anticipated to be unforgettable, is taking place on Saturday, September 7 in the courtyard of the upscale Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, Holetown, St. James.
Perhaps for the first time in living memory, a high quality gospel album with global appeal and featuring a wide cross section of some of the greatest acts in Barbados, will be launched by a major music production agency.
Another first is the fact that the album, titled Bold Bajan Gospel – Because of Love Divine, will be played in its entirety and performed by the 14 artistes highlighted on it.
Produced by CRS Music & Media, the release brings to light songs from award-winning performers and potential awardees Allison Norville-Forde, A Few Good Men, Sirrah, Shane Forrester, Toni Norville, Kareen Clarke, Sister Margrita Marshall, John Yarde, Barry Reid, Lana Spooner, James Leacock, Lyrical “The Delivered”, Rhesa Garnes and Maachelle Farley.
All of the songs were selected and compiled by Tabitha Johnson for CRS Music & Media and technologically enhanced in Britain. This product is recommended listening and is a good mix of Caribbean rhythms, fusions of reggae with rhythm poetry, hip hop/pop, contemporary gospel and slow grooves.
However, I particularly like Allison Norville-Forde’s I Am A Winner, A Few Good Men’s Stronger Than I Ever Was, Sirrah’s Love Me To Life, James Leacock’s The Beauty of Holiness, Kareen Clarke’s I Run To You, Barry Reid’s Over and Over Again, Toni Norville’s Reign featuring world acclaimed Barbadian saxophonist, Arturo Tappin, Sister Marshall’s Walk Holy, Maachelle Farley’s Free and Lyrical’s God Is A Good God.
The album generally reflects a bias towards easy listening gospel, with a handful of the more up tempo. But Chief Executive Officer and Director of CRS Music & Media, Stephen Lubin, suggested to High Note that what may be missing from this inaugural effort, is expected to be compensated for in a follow up release some time next year.
In fact, absent from this production, though not intentional, Lubin assured, is singer/song writer De Warrior, the biggest hit on the local gospel music scene at the moment. If all goes well, gospel music enthusiasts and supporters of De Warrior can expect to enjoy his release next year.
Lubin noted that his company just may produce an album of his work alone next year. In any event, the idea is to include De Warrior in a second album. The emcee for this inaugural launch at Limegrove will be radio personality and entertainer, Kirk Browne.
