A 42-year-old boat owner escaped with his life this afternoon, after being rescued by a water sports operation from his burning vessel about a quarter mile off Derricks, St. James.
Martin Atwell of Vauxhall, in the same parish, was the only person onboard his pleasure craft Xpression, when it caught fire and went up in flames.
The Miami-registered 31-foot boat was heading to the Shallow Draught at about 2:25 p.m., when the fire broke out.
The Barbados Coast Guard ship HMBS Leonard Banfield responded to the distress call and extinguished the blaze, the origin of which is still under investigation. (EJ)
