This week will see quite a few major releases and the start of some big ticket pre-orders. Kick of this big week will be the long awaited Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), and according to game reviews it will live up to the hype. Scoring perfect 10s across the board by IGN and a 9.0 by Gamespot GTAV is going to be one of this year’s biggest tiles and a definite contender for Game Of The Year tile, right up there with The Last Of Us and Beyond: Two Souls.
According to the good folks over at Joystiq, the game lacks none of the classic GTA ingredients, “You can run the streets of a fully-realised world, steal cars, cause chaos and attempt to flee from an extraordinarily irritable police force”. Along with this, Rockstar has added a new element to the fray, heist mode. This challenges the games three playable main characters to “heist” valuables from a target like banks, jewelry stores, etc.
The addition of what is promised to be a truly epic online game mode will keep your attention locked for many hours, well at least until the Playstation 4 this holiday season.
Also tomorrow pre-orders for the Galaxy Gear will open over at AT&T, the carrier has just announced that it will start taking pre-orders for Samsung’s smartwatch at 12:01AM ET tomorrow. The $299 USD price tag was posted by Samsung earlier this summer with an ETA in the US of mid-October, but given this earlyish pre-order opening I won’t be surprised if it is released shortly after the other Samsung device which also opens for pre orders this week, the Samsung Note 3.
T-Mobile has also broke open the pre-order doors of the whopping 5.7 inch handset. With an expected in store date of October 2 this almost tablet sized mammoth not only utilizes a S-Pen but enhances its functionality and adds better hardware and components to ensure it’s able to handle anything you can throw at it. I personally have never been a fan of the note (just not really fan of having to put my mobile phone in separate hand bag of backpack), but I have never heard any user have anything remotely bad to say about them. Everyone I know is completely in love with Note which isn’t something I can say for many other smartphones.
Also coming to life this week will be iOS 7, Apple’s latest version of its mobile Operating System, with boast a complete overhaul of OS both visually and interactively. The new flatten icons does bring the OS into 2013, but other than that the rest of the OS just plays catch up to its main rival Android OS. Don’t get me wrong, I think the OS is fantastic and does many things well and even better than they were done in previous versions of the OS, but hasn’t really broken any real new ground. The new OS is set to start rolling out on Wednesday, and will be available via either Over The Air updates or iTunes.
All in all this week will be one of long lines and major releases, I’m sure there’s going to be something in it for you. I am currently debating whether or not to grab hold of GTA V or not, but deep down I have already made my mind up all this good stuff and we still have the holiday season to look forward to for even more big ticket releases. You can be assured I will be here to help guide you through the digital maze that is the fourth quarter of the year.
