UNESCO recently granted World Heritage status to the revolutionary Ernesto ” Che” Guevara”s manuscripts, otherwise known as the “Motorcycle Diaries “. The book has been described as a classic coming-of-age story: a voyage of adventure and self-discovery that is both political and personal. In 1952 Guervara decided to postpone his last semester before graduation to accompany his twenty-nine year old biochemist friend Alberto Granado on his four month , 8,000 km long dream motorcycle trip throughout South America. These manuscripts, include his early days to his personal daily records before his execution in the Bolivian Mountains by the military in 1967, would be included in the World Register and preserved with the help and cooperation of UNESCO.
The inventory includes his revolutionary work, essays, personal writings, biographical material and various correspondences of his era.
Guervara’s widow Aleida, son and daughter were invited to the ceremony which was recently held in Havana. This inclusion of these documents in the World Register contains nearly 300 collections from five continents with ” Che’s” work among 54 inclusions this year.
