Renowned poet, Kamau Brathwaite, has been bestowed with the Clement Payne Cultural Achievement Award 2014.
The award was presented last evening at the third meeting of the University of Independence Square, hosted by the Pan-African Coalition of Organisations and the Clement Payne Movement.
President of the movement, David Comissiong explained, “Every year as we approach National Heroes Day, the Clement Payne Movement selects an outstanding Barbadian, who in our opinion exemplifies the spirit, courage and commitment of the Rt Excellent, Clement Payne, National Hero of Barbados.”
Brathwaite, the holder of numerous international literary awards, was unable to attend last night’s ceremony due to ill health. However, the award was received by his wife, Beverley.
