A 41-year-old Jamaican, who is accused of swallowing cannabis, has pleaded guilty to four drug-related charges.
Donna Ann-Marie Barnes-Peart had been charged with possession of two pounds of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.
When she appeared in the Oistins Magistrates’ Court yesterday, she was fined $24,000 forthwith for the offence of importation or two years in prison. She was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the remaining charges. The fine was not paid.
Barnes-Peart, who arrived from Jamaica last week Monday, was referred to a medical facility where she passed out 50 packets containing cannabis which she had ingested. Police say a cylindrical-shaped package was also retrieved from her private parts.
