Party Monarch Gorg is getting set to represent Barbados overseas.
He travels to Grenada on Thursday for Spicemas where he will perform his Crop Over hit Meh Rum. He has also been booked to perform in St Vincent.
“I’m ready to represent. I also have older songs that are very popular so I’m going to mix up everything and enjoy myself,” said Gorg, stating his intention to fly the Barbadian flag “very high”.
“Only about two days ago I realised that I won [the Party Monarch], it was actually like a dream,” said Gorg.
He was speaking yesterday at the Crop Over press conference and luncheon host by the Barbados Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Culture, which also featured the winners of the Junior Monarch competition.
Aside from winning the Party Monarch crown, Gorg also tied with Porgie & Murda for first place for having the most popular tunes played by the bands in the 2014 Roberts/BL&P Foreday Morning Jam.
Meantime, Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley spoke highly of the quality of songs produced this year.
“I have to say that this year there can be no argument about the quality of our calypsos, none whatsoever,” he said.
“I really want to single our the calypsonians for special mention, those who would have been involved in the competitions. I certainly like the party songs,” he stated, singling out Gorg’s Meh Rum as a ‘fantastic song’.
