The Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) has paid tribute to one of its longstanding members and former top public servant Sir Harcourt Lewis who died on Tuesday at the age of 83.
Sir Harcourt passed away at the Bayview Hospital after a period of illness.
In expressing condolences to his family, BARP president Ed Bushell described Sir Harcourt as “a true son of the soil in every respect”.
“During his lifetime he served his country at governmental, non-governmental and community levels and was pivotal in the development of Barbados’ financial sector. His selfless devotion to country was publicly acknowledged in the 2010 New Year’s Honours when he was awarded a Knighthood by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth,” he noted.
“A member of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons soon after its inception, Sir Harcourt was a very dear and committed volunteer of the organization, serving as chairman of the BARP Golden Health Oversight Committee until his passing,” Bushell added.
