The Bajan ‘green monkeys’ were out in their numbers today, so too were the ‘shaggy bears’, as well as scores of Barbadians and visitors.
As usual, the Royal Barbados Police Force Band and the Sandy Lane dancers were on parade, led by MC Mac Fingall.
However, patrons were treated this year to a special performance from the dapperly dressed members of the St Leonard’s Boys Choir.
Several familiar faces were among the large crowd, which braved the sunshine for a fine afternoon of racing at the historic Garrison Savannah.
The day’s feature race – the 34th staging of the Sandy Lane Gold Cup – was eventually won for the first time by seasoned jockey Rico Walcott, aboard the American bred Sayler’s Creek.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart led the official presentation party.
Barbados TODAY’s photographer Remy Rock captured the day’s high points.
