Barbadian under-18 doubles pair of Kiana Marshall and Cherise Slocombe are through to the semi-final round of the ongoing Scotiabank/ITF/Barbados International Junior Tournament.
Today at the Tennis Center in Wildey the duo impressed in the quarterfinal round when they served up a 7-5, 6-3 and 10-8 defeat of Csilla Fodor of Hunduras and Y-kit Nicole Tan of Singapore.
Both Marshall and Slocombe who are ranked number two seeds in the tournament would be seeking to fly the broken trident high in tomorrow’s semi-final when they take on American pair of Hurricane Tyra Black and Julia Goldberg who dispatched Sabina Dadaciu of Romania and Tiffany Davis of the United States in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 under very sunny weather conditions.
Should Marshall and Slocombe advance to the finals they will take on the winners of tomorrow’s second semi-finals double scheduled to be played between Maria Jose Colorado Zavala of Mexico and Lilian Gabrielsen of Norway who will take on the backarm and forearm of Cheyenne Lilienthal of the USA and Alejandra Tamayo Gomez of Mexico.
Dylan Hall, another Barbadian, will feature in the 18 and under doubles with his partner Zummy Bauer of USA. Hall and Bauer won their quarterfinals 7-4 with four in the tiebreak and 7-6 and 6-2 against Franz Luna Lavidalie of Guatemala and Andrew Quiros of El Salvador.
They will oppose Xavier Oshinowo of the USA and Joshua Peck of Canada.
In the males double Sebastian Arcila of Puerto Rico will team up with Gabriel Nemeth of Brazil to challenge Great Britain’s duo of Alastair Gray and Luke Purser.
Peck will also be in action in the singles against Sean Hill of USA. The rackets of USA-born Bauer and Oshinowo will clash when they take on each other in the other single.
Tiffany Huber will clash with Sabina Dadaciu of Romania in the girls’ 18 and under singles semi-finals. Meanwhile Black and Lilienthal will do battle in the other singles match-up.
