Barbados’ newest multi-million dollar luxury accommodation, Port Ferdinand Marina, is performing way above expectations with nearly a dozen units sold since it went on the market just under five months ago.
Word of that has come from Eoin O’Sullivan, group general manager of Unna Luxury Resorts and Residences, resort company of the St Peter property.
O’Sullivan told Barbados TODAY that he was “very encouraged” about the future of the island’s tourism product as well as the St Peter business, given the rate of sales of the units and the current performance of the industry.
Earlier this week, Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados Dr DeLisle Worrell reported that the economy grew by about one per cent for the first three months of this year, and he said it was expected to grow between 1.5 and two per cent for the rest of this year, led by tourism and other private sector investments.
O’Sullivan said he believed the island was “very well positioned for the future”, especially when it came to tourism, adding that he was also encouraged by the work of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc.
“There is definitely a feel good factor in Barbados. There seems to be a lot more new ideas coming. We are very fortunate,” he said.
“From the scale of the investment here we are encouraged about the future, not only for us but for Barbados as a whole. This has been a very important part of bringing something new to Barbados for the future. It is a real stamp of our belief in the future of Barbados and for our own developments.”
He said since the 16-acre West Coast property which currently consists of 46 units opened for business, the number of enquiries has been increasing.
“Port Ferdinand opened its doors at the beginning of December and we have been very happy with how things have progressed since,” he said.
“It has been growing from strength to strength over the last couple of weeks. The number of people coming to visit us and coming to enquire about our properties along with our new tourist guests leave us to be very encouraged for the future . . . Our sales have been very encouraging, far exceeding our expectations . . . Last month we saw our first rental guest come through.”
Construction of the project started in 2009 with the first two phases being completed. O’Sullivan said there was a third phase, which would include the construction of about five more buildings, taking the total number of two and three-bedroom units to 86.
