The University of the West Indies Blackbirds 3-2 victory over Direct TV Paradise last night put them on 17 points and in third position when action in the Digicel-sponsored Barbados Football Association Premier League continued at the Wildey, St. Michael Astro Turf.
Paradise defender Zico Phillips scored in the 34th minute to give his team a 1-0 advantage at the end of the first half. In the second half the UWI Blackbirds equalized compliments their top striker Mario Harte in the 50th minute. But three minutes later Paradise striker Jabarry Chandler scored and put his team back ahead.
UWI would once again respond when defender Amal Mayers found the equalizer in the 79th minute. But a minute later they were down to ten men as Tito Beckles got a red card. However, in the dying stages of the game UWI’s hero of the night Dario Harewood scored in extra-time to put the game to bed.
In the other game of the night Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme and Weymouth Wales played to a 2-2 draw. Wales are in second place on 19 points behind league leaders Rendezvous on 20.
Wales scored 20 minutes into the game when the ball was passed from the right to striker Jomo Harewood who controlled it in front the goal and chipped the ball over the head of BDFSP goalkeeper Saheka Duke and into the back of the nets to end the first half at 1-0.
When the second half commenced BDFSP’s striker Chai Lloyd scored one minute into that half. Goals were then traded with Kemar Headley scoring in the 47th minute to give Wales the advantage. But BDFSP striker Shaquille Boyce locked the scores in the 64th minute to share the spoils.
