Romano Snagg delivered a hat-trick as Rendezvous proved too good for Parish Land last night with a 6-0 victory which allowed them to advance into the quarterfinal round of the on-going Banks Beer Football Cup competition.
Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) have also made it through to the quarterfinals after their 5-2 defeat of Klaytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame also at the Wildey, St. Michael Astro Turf last night.
Seven minutes into the featured game Rendezvous’ midfielder Snagg received a ball which was played inside the box to him and he drilled it into the back of the nets. In the 24th minute Rendezvous would score again when midfielder Emerald George speedily ran the ball down the left flank, controlled it well to send in a cross into the 18-yard box, and found the boot of Snagg who finished the job well to give Rendezvous a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first half.
In the 61st minute of play in the second half Miron Samuel got in on the action when he out-ran a Parish Land defender and scored the ball wide to the right of goalkeeper Jason White. Then to make matters worse for Parish Land who tried to put as much pressure as they could on Rendezvous in the second half, their goalkeeper White left his line in an effort to challenge substitute Shandel Samuel for the ball but Samuel kept his eyes on the ball and managed to head it down in front the goal area where Snagg was in place to capitalize for his third goal of the night in the 75th minute.
Shandel was a busy man as soon as he came off the bench and Rendezvous were able to register their fifth goal of the game when he was brought down inside the penalty area by keeper White and Keon Atkins scored via penalty in the 78th minute. Then Shandel got on the scoresheet when he received a floated ball and volleyed it into the back of nets in 81st minute.
In the first game of the evening the BDFSP scored 42 seconds into the game when midfielder Rashad Jules put one past Notre Dame goalkeeper Carl Belgrave. Seven minutes later Raheim Sargeant let his presence be felt with a goal of his own when he got past Notre Dame defender Jabarry Nicholls and slammed a shot into the back of the nets.
One minute before half time BDFSP captain Romario Harewood scored when the Notre Dame defenders basically allowed him free passage. In the 49th minute of the second half Harewood scored another goal and striker Kyle Gibson made it five in the 75th minute. Akeem Broomes and Ronaldo Sealy found two late goals in the 79th and 85th minutes respectively for Dames which were too little too late.
In the quarterfinal round Rendezvous are scheduled to play Brittons Hill while BDFSP will play reigning champions Wales.
