The Lodge School were manhandled by Graydon Sealy Secondary 58-23 when the two sides met this evening in the opening game of the 2015 Co-operators General Insurance Company-sponsored National Sports Council’s Junior Basketball Tournament.
Graydon Sealy, with home court advantage, got off to a flier and the scoresheet throughout the game showed it with the first three quarters ending 23-4, 34-8 and 48-17 to Graydon Sealy.
The boys from Paddock Road got off to a blazing start in the first quarter both on the offensive and defensive end. They got 11 points from forward Chemar Steele and four each from Tremaine Straker who ended the game on 13 and Ishan Wilson with a total of five.
Daryan Jordan scored three points for Lodge in that quarter and he ended with a total of ten points which was the highest individual score for Lodge.
They also succeeded in thwarting most of The Lodge School’s offensive efforts, whether with steals, or limiting them to one shot with defensive rebounds. Theirs was a combined team effort.
The Lodge School had one of the tallest players on the court in Tre’ Ward but he was hardly a factor, especially on the defensive end where his presence in the paint did not deter Graydon Sealy from attacking the basket for easy lay-ups.
Graydon Sealy’s offensive intensity ebbed somewhat in the second period where they added only 11 points but still outscored the lacklustre Lodge lads who tallied a mere four points. The Lodge boys came out in the penultimate quarter showing a little more fight and managed nine points. Kevon Trotman scored six of these and put in a spirited effort.
But with Steele and Straker continuing their good play and finding regular offensive support from team-mates it would have taken an explosive last quarter effort from The Lodge School to narrow the deficit and make a serious challenge on Graydon Sealy. But the explosion never materialized in the final period and Graydon Sealy basically cruised until the final whistle.
