When Sai Yearwood went into Carlton Supermarket two months ago, security personnel kept him under surveillance.
They saw when he went to the liquor section and selected a bottle of rum. They also saw when he proceeded to the bakery section, where he remained for about 10 minutes before going to the cashier.
The Lower Wavell Avenue, Black Rock, St Michael man paid for other items but not for the rum. When security approached him, he ran off in the direction of Yearwood Road, but was caught and returned to the supermarket. The bottle of rum was found in his bag.
When Yearwood first appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court, he denied committing the offence. Today, he confessed before acting Magistrate Alliston Seale.
He was fined $250, which is payable in one month. Failure to pay will mean two months in prison for Yearwood.
