A 60-year-old man appeared in a Bridgetown Court today charged with two counts of harassing a woman in Baxter’s Road, The City.
Clyde Stanfield Phillips denied harassing Shana Joseph on either May 8 or 13 this year. The accused lives at Phillips Road, St Stephen’s Hill, St Michael.
Acting Magistrate Alliston Seale noted that there were two allegations on two separate dates.
Kendrid Sergeant, attorney-at-law for Phillips, responded by telling the court that ‘harassment’ is very wide and could cover a number of scenarios.
“If he passes and speaks to a person and that person doesn’t like it, that is harassment. We don’t know how serious it is nor how trivial it is,” he explained. He then asked the court to grant his client bail.
Bail was granted at $7 500 but it came with a stern warning.
“You are prohibited from interfering, harassing or approaching this lady Shana Joseph . . . You don’t have any reason to interact with her?”
“No Sir,” Phillips replied.
The accused returns to court on September 10.
