Students in some of the island’s schools will soon be better honing their skills in instrumental music through a donation to the National Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Music In Schools Programme.
The Multinational Fair and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation on Friday last made available to the programme the sum of $100,000.
Sharen Lady Carmichael and Sharon Oran presented the cheque to Charles F. Broome principal Louis Griffith and Joy-Knight Lynch, director of the orchestra, at the Government Hill school Friday morning, the first institution to benefit from the donation.
Lawrence T. Gay Memorial and Wesley Hall Primary schools are also scheduled to participate in the programme, with immediate expansion into St George, Hilda Skeene and West Terrace Primary schools.
“We are incredibly grateful for this contribution towards the Music In Schools Programme and the purchasing of new instruments.
“Training of these young musicians not only gives the children a feeling of self-worth, but also provides an outlet for expression of their wealth of talent while honing that talent to be enjoyed by people who love music,”
Knight-Lynch said.
